5 things you might not know about Cathy Bramley's Conditional Love

Cathy is not only a wonderful author, but she is such an inspiration too (and lovely to boot!). She self-published delightful novel Conditional Love back in 2013 and on the back of it landed a publishing deal with Transworld. They have since released her novels Ivy Lane and Appleby Farm (first in four digital parts before the full paperbacks were released) and another one, Wickham Hall, is set for publication in early 2016.

To tide her fans over in the mean time, Transworld has released a brand spankin' new version of Conditional Love this month, which I've been told is even better than before! And I am super stoked to be part of the blog tour for the novel today, celebrating its publication with Cathy's list of five things you might not know about Conditional Love yet.

5 things you might not know about Conditional Love

1. It was inspired by my husband inheriting the bungalow he grew up in when his father passed away. No mysterious benefactor nor conditions to the will though!

2. I have always loved property and in fact, we took the decision to build ourselves a new house on the site of the bungalow. Here I am with my girls and in ‘the kitchen’ in 2011!

3. The name of the main character, Sophie Stone, is a combination of the name of a little girl who we used to live near, called Sophie Snow (what a fantastic name) and Hazel Stone, who was my mother-in-law.

4. The book had several titles before I eventually settled on Conditional Love. For ages it was called Home Is Where the Heart Is. I found some mugs with that slogan on it and bought them as I thought it was a sign. But later changed my mind. Still got the mugs!

5. Something happens to Sophie in chapter seven which was inspired by a mortifying incident in my own career. In a meeting once, when I was very nervous, I got the expression ‘dog’s breakfast’ mixed up with another well-known, slightly less polite expression beginning with dog’s. I still shudder with embarrassment whenever I think about it!

Thanks for sharing this great list of things we might not know about Conditional Love yet, Cathy! The beautiful Transworld paperback of the novel is now out and you can get your copy from Foyles or your own preferred retailer.

This book means such a lot to me as it really kicked off my writing career and I'm so proud that it's now on bookshop and supermarket shelves around the country. I remember you reviewing the original version and am so thrilled that you've been part of my publishing journey. Cathy xx
